Access to affordable and quality health care is important for all Americans. With our current health care system so challenged, the time for serious reform is now. We must bring coverage to the more than 47 million Americans without health insurance and make sure that coverage is affordable. We need presidential leadership and I believe that President Obama is showing that leadership.

This Congress, with President Obama’s support, has already passed a much needed bipartisan, expansion to the State Children’s Health Insurance Program (SCHIP). This expansion will help guarantee that millions of uninsured and underinsured children across the country, and tens of thousands in California, will receive the health care they need to grow to their full potential. This is a small but important step in ensuring that all Americans have adequate health care coverage.
